NEWS UPDATE January 2008
Hi Folks
Happy new year!
Sorry for the delay in writing but since we have arrived in England at the end of October last year we haven’t had any news as such till now. We have been gypsies for most of the time staying with friends (who we are extremely grateful to) and staying in holiday cottages.
However, since just before Christmas we’ve been at my sister Terry’s house, as she has been away on holiday down under visiting her boys. Christmas kind of got in the way of all our plans, both finding work for Dave and finding somewhere to live near to the job. Dave has applied for lots of jobs and even has had some interviews which put us both on tenterhooks waiting to hear the results of them. None of these proved suitable for various reasons (but see below).
To say we have been tetchy is putting it mildly, but all
that is over or at least part of it is. Over the festive period we decided to
choose where we wanted to live and then find the work nearby, instead of the
other way round. Because we loved the
place and it seems central enough for both jobs and people we know; we looked
for somewhere to live near
It is now all signed and almost delivered. From the 1st of February we will be living at:
Home: 01672
564293
Mobile 0784 781 4113 (PC Doctor Dave)
Email: use the one we sent this with please.
We have arranged movers and have also hired a transit van to bring Dave’s motorbike back and we are all excited about the move.
In the meantime, Dave has been fixing more computers. ‘PC Doctor Dave’ has already had 2
‘proper’ jobs in
This week we got a response from a good friend of Terry’s who did not know it was us (she knew us but not our name). She was fed up with her husband moaning about his computer, so kept our little leaflet till the next time he complained about his computer and then made him phone Dave.
Once we have moved in to our cottage we will do a bigger advertising campaign and Dave will still keep looking for short term contracts while the PC Doctor Dave business gets established, but we are now on our way to being proper British people.
Terry and David are arriving home this Friday so it is not a minute too soon. We are picking them up from the airport at the crack of dawn staying to chat for the day and then returning on Holland on Saturday. We still have a few loose ends to tie up and a bit of shopping too.
Once the removal men arrive at Pewsey, it will be lots of boxes to unpack and it will be like Christmas all over again. Some or our stuff has not seen the light of day for two and a half years we just hope there is enough room in the cottage to put it all. Ah well, I can always throw some of it away! (yeah, right says Dave).
We have rented the cottage for 6 months and then we may have the option to extend as the owner is moving to Oman and what with the economic situation regarding house prices in the UK and the fact we have no credit rating so we will not be able to obtain a mortgage for a while we could stay put for a year. Aileen the owner has left lots of stuff like whiteware in the kitchen and all her bedroom furniture we are all set to receive visitors soon.
Our holidays are about to come to an end and probably no bad thing at that. When we were staying in the country cottages we visited lots of local sights and did a fair amount of geographical features, It has been great to visit old friends too. On the whole the weather has been kind though nothing like it was last year. 2007 was in retrospect a strange year, started with an amazing long holiday then a long wait to sell the house then panic to get everything sorted and then another wait to find our feet here in Blighty, so I was fairly happy when the clocks chimed in 2008 as I never really believed that patience was a virtue.
We hope all is well in your worlds and now that we have put Pewsey on our map we hope you will come and visit us soon.
